The Texas Mid-Coast Initiative area includes 16 Texas counties along the coast from Galveston Bay to Corpus Christi and inland. The goal of the initiative is to provide wintering and migration habitat for significant numbers of dabbling ducks, redheads, lesser snow geese and greater white-fronted geese, as well as year-round habitat for mottled ducks. The Texas Mid-Coast Initiative Plan focuses on the three habitat types most important to waterfowl populations of the area, coastal marsh, agricultural lands that are dominated by rice and pasture, and sea grasses associated with estuarine subtidal aquatic bed wetlands.
